The photo went viral

In 2008, Atsuko Sato adopted a Shiba Inu that would have otherwise been euthanized. Two years later, the teacher took a photo of her pet sitting cross-legged on a sofa.

She posted the image on her blog, and from there it spread on the online forum Reddit and became a meme that made its way from college dorm rooms to office email chains.

A viral meme image of Kabosu inspired Dogecoin in 2013, which initially started out as a joke cryptocurrency. Doge’s success later led to the creation of all sorts of dog-related tokens, such as Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Floki (FLOKI), which together now make up one of the industry’s largest sectors.
