600 signatures – this is the number Tuttlingen Siegfried Knopf hopes to collect in the coming weeks. That’s because he has a cause he wants to push through.

Felix is his dog’s name. The Goldendoodle is a mix between a Golden Retriever and a Royal Poodle. He must pay dog tax of 120 euros per year. His owner, Siegfried Knopf, is now hoping that some of the money can be invested in the city’s four-legged friends and has started an online petition asking for pasture for the dog.

most of them know each other

“If you want to house your dog in a species-appropriate manner, you need to give him plenty of outdoor exercise,” he explains his concerns. However, according to the city ordinance of Tuttlingen, leashes are compulsory in all green spaces. He wants his petition to find out whether there is a sufficient need for fenced dog runs in the city.

Most dog owners who go out with their four-legged friends know each other. You start a conversation. The 64-year-old realized that many people shared his views. So is Sonya Baumgartner. Her last name has been changed at her request. “Because of the anonymity online,” she says.

There is already a small area

She adopted her dog Rudy from an animal shelter. “Unfortunately, I don’t have a garden,” she says. But it would have been very nice for Rudy to have a fenced area, especially in the early stages. But the only way to let your dog run off-leash in the city is in the small area behind the playground.

“It’s complete bullshit,” she says. “Even though there is a bicycle path nearby, I don’t let my dog run there.” There is a risk that the dog will chase the cyclist.

Online platform selected

The petition was launched on Saturday, April 27, and by Monday afternoon had amassed 55 signatories on the internet platform change.org, which bills itself as the world’s largest petition platform for social change. Siegfried Knopf expects it will take about a month and a half to get the dog park signed off. Approximately 1.5 percent of residents need to support the petition, hence the 600 number.

A list to sign is also available at the Tuttlingen Dog Club. You can find out more about this campaign on Facebook under Siegfried and his Knopf account and under “Missing Animals Tuttlingen”.

That way collisions can be avoided

Knopf said the dogs can legally run free in specially fenced pastures, and social behavior is trained through guided contact between the dogs. And this is also important to him. “Avoiding conflicts between visitors and dog owners on green spaces”.

He has already found the perfect spot for a dog park. It is an old mini-golf course located behind the current course in Umloehle. Must be an area of 100 x 100 meters. “This will give our four-legged friends a chance to de-stress without a leash,” Knopp says.

The city says so.

Once we have collected the necessary signatures, we hope to contact city officials.

The government is not fundamentally opposed to dog runs. In an interview with this newspaper, city spokesperson Arno Specht said the request had not received the city’s attention so far. This could change quickly.
