Clues sought: A dog was allegedly killed with poison bait in Estrigen on Friday, according to a police report. So, the dog and his owner were walking in the evening near the Lourdes Grotto in Odenheim when their four-legged friend suddenly ate an unknown substance from the ground. Shortly afterward, the dog died from nausea and vomiting. The owner was able to find and secure a meat-like substance in the companion animal’s mouth and where it had previously ingested something in the pasture. Police are investigating the incident on suspicion of violating the Animal Welfare Act, and are urging dog owners to be especially careful when walking their dogs.

PETA provides rewards

To help solve this case, PETA is also offering a €1,000 reward for information leading to the ultimate conviction of those responsible for the crime. If you have seen anything suspicious in the past few days or have any other information, please contact police, call 0711-8605910 or email Animal Welfare Group (anonymously). (if any) you will be asked to contact us.

“Whoever is responsible for the dog’s death must be found before other animals and people are put at risk,” said Annika Lewald, PETA’s animal companion expert. “Animal abusers are often difficult to convict because they act when they feel unobserved. That’s why in such cases, every hint, no matter how insignificant, can become important. By offering a reward, we want to encourage the investigation of the crime and raise awareness and alert animal owners about this issue.”

first aid tips

If you suspect that your animal has eaten food contaminated with poison or hazardous substances, you should contact your veterinarian immediately. Life-threatening – the animal can die painfully from internal injuries. You should also contact your veterinarian immediately if any symptoms of poisoning occur, such as vomiting, diarrhea, severe restlessness or apathy, pale or porcelain changes in the mucous membranes, large pupils, difficulty breathing or convulsions. Because the poison works quickly. Dogs must be kept calm and on a leash. Do not wear a muzzle or sling as there is a risk of choking if vomiting occurs. If the animal is already unconscious, it should be placed in a stable lateral position and the airway should be cleared. For quick diagnosis, it is reasonable to take a sample of food or vomit and take it to the veterinarian.

Animal cruelty is not a misdemeanor, but a criminal offense under Section 17 of the Animal Welfare Act, which can result in a fine or imprisonment of up to three years. PETA regularly offers rewards in cases of animal abuse and neglect to help identify those responsible.
